    Caterpillars

Following on from some of Brian's recent photos . . .

I always find caterpillars difficult to photograph. Too long to get in one shot, but too much movement for a stack of shots. And if I do get them at the right angle they so often end up with an image that is looking flat and boring!

And I haven't mentioned the potential exposure problems.

So here are a few from this month, with varying levels of success.

Depressaria daucella (a type of moth)

    Caterpillars

    The Drinker Moth

    Caterpillars

Oak Eggar Moth. They always look depressed and grumpy just like this one.

    Caterpillars

    Possibly some form of Sawfly?

    Caterpillars

I think that deserves some applause - with all six hands!

    Caterpillars

Still waiting for identification on the last one. I found a similar caterpillar last year but didn't have quite so much detail, so it remained unidentified.

Yes, indeed! Wow for that last image! Absolutely gorgeous. I think this is the first time I've seen the face of a caterpillar, an expressive face, and what a cute face it is.
