!2 am on the Longest Day of the year

My first HDR. The result is less bright on the foreground than the reality but I thought it was more important to get the sky realistic.

Never really gets dark and standing there I could quite easily see detail in the field. Including a Great Grey Owl hunting in the field. The owl passed within ten feet of me, very cool thing to see.

Interesting and almost abstract view Tevor.

The downside, of course, is that the days are going to get longer and I won't have to get up at 4:00AM for sunrise / Blue Hour / Golden Hour work. The bad news is that winter is coming....

Beautiful sky. Solstice is only a big deal to those of us that live in high latitudes. When I lived further south it was just another day. And, Manfred, let's not dwell on the fact that every day gets a bit shorter for the next six months

My wife and I spent the weekend with friends at their lake house. Everyone was thrilled that the weekend happened to fall on the day with the most daylight. This is in Virginia, definitely not a high latitude.

I try not to think of the flip side of living here this time of the year. The pale, wan sun that peeps over the hills at 10 am, slides along the horizon and leaves at 4 pm never doing more than putting in an appearance on December 21. Definitely not doing much in the way of heating anything.

But then we get sunrises and sunsets that can last an hour to two hours each as the sun slowly slips along below the horizon. So maybe it is not all bad

And their is beautiful "golden hour" light from sunrise right through all four hours to sunset.
