It's not a matter of "Orton or not"...when you introduce a grandmother into the image, she is the subject and not the background. You have grandma OOF and occupying the extreme upper right portion of the image next to the border...facing outward! Your trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

I prefer the orton but I agree with Boyer about the composition and the main subject.

The main subject was supposed to be seen deep in thought and at one with nature. It is the only one I tried focus differently, hoping to get a feel for a hot day, well why not just auto focus on the subject and auto expose as well, the subject is actually everything, the warmth, the old and the new but you can't take a snapshot, it takes effort to get it right. Like I said; all the others are pics of granny in her garden.

Kids eh, never try anything new. I did take a snap earlier to make sure I got something before experimenting with Orton and DoF.
Hope this is more to your taste as it is more normal.

As you can see, she, my mother, is on the golden ratio and not on the top corner.
