100% sRGB & adobe RGB for old Dell

    Hi All

I was looking to add a second monitor to my set up and a 27" Dell Ultra Sharp series (2709) came up with a good price so I picked it up. It's 10kg in weight and looks massive next to my Acer 27". My Acer is 2013 model and it is LED back lighting so it is less than half that weight.

After calibrating the Dell with Spyder4pro, It gave both sRGB and Adobe RGB rating at 100%. I could never achieve that with the Acer the best It ever got was 98% sRGB and 87% Adobe RGB. I also have an older 23"(2009) LG Flatron TN panel and it could only manage 95% sRGB and 78% adobe RGB.

Image wise, I was quite surprised that the Dell is richer in both color and resolution than Acer and LG. Acer and LG are 1920 x 1080 and the Dell is 1920 x1200 but I did not expect it to be that noticeable.

I understand that not a lot of people play around in Adobe RGB. I only do it sometimes and then convert it back to sRGB but I was surprised to see that this old monitor can achieve the full ARGB gamut.

Since it's tough Tuesday, I thought I share my little excitement for the week

Hope you didn't pay more than 100 bucks for five year old technology.
Did the factory cal sheet come with it?

    Richard

I paid $130 for it. This is the Version 4 which is an IPS panel and I like IPS panel. The guy that I purchased it off has 2 Dells 2709wb and 2711. He wanted $300 for the 2711 but I could not see the difference between the 2. Fatory Cal Sheet did not come with it. I know it's a few years old but like it more than my 2014 Acer. It's actually better than my partner's Dell 2740L (2014 model). Apart from a relatively slow response (IPS panel nature) which does not bother me as dont play interactive games, Color depth, resolution and constrast are still unbeatable.

    Cheers

Sounds cool Dean. Hope to see some pics from you where you can tell us how the results were enhanced by your new set-up.

It's probably W-CCFL backlighted though, right? So the red and blue primaries are spiky. Do you have any idea what the delta Es are?

Yes it is CCFL but red and blue are fine to me. I have no ideas how to measure delta Es.

You should be able to do it with your Spyder. Read the book.

Not with the Spyder4pro only the Spyder4elite can.

Another reason not to buy a Spyder.
