19 most expensive photographs ever sold
Here's a cool article listing (and showing) the top 19 most expensive photographs. Interesting that Cindy Sherman has 2 on this list. I like Cindy Sherman's story. She's a unique photographer, to say the least.

Re: 19 most expensive photographs ever sold
Thanks for the link, throws light on what goes as photo art in these days. But I suppose that such sales depend on marketing strategies as much as on anything else, and on what comes on the market: just like this old daguerreotype, or tintype or whatever it is, of Billy the Kid. And I wonder ho bought that picture of te Russian president. Not bad, but an all-time high sale...
The 4. 99 cent II Diptychon is, by the way, also from Gursky.
Finally, I don't think one should be too much interested or impressed by such sales. There is a lot of marvelous photographers not among them - I think, for instance, Diane Arbus is at least as interesting as Cindy Sherman.

First sentence of the website: "It has been a long debate weather photography has its place at the fine art table or not. " I've never heard weather photography discussed this intellectually before.

To my mind the fundamental flaw with the article is that it implicitly suggests that in order to qualify as art you have to be a commercial success. As Richard points out, the "weather" error sort of sets the stage......
