    Some Olympus E-M1 macro shots

I used the 75-300mm zoom plus a bargain achromatic close up lens for these. All minimal PP. Hand held and using AF. Success rate was higher this time. I used AF without tracking. Need to take some more with tracking on as it would help maintain focus but I'm getting the feeling best results might be obtained with it off and careful focus square positioning.

F Only just about reasonable at this size, no so full sized and some operator error. Should have been square on to the beast.

G Rather pleased with this one but suffered as taken at 1/60 sec

H Drat - had to use 1/25 sec on this one

I think it shows some promise for work like this and maybe bird photography but for that much depends on the price of the 300mm F4 that's coming next year. I don't see any problems with general stuff but am yet to duplicate the silly setting shot I posted some time ago taken with the D7000 at a mad iso setting in conditions that didn't need it. It will be interesting to see how noise compares.

This is a 100% crop of one of the shots. Just sharpened but the eye detail was there before that.

The worst of the lot in terms of bad results was shot H taken 5 times. At that magnification the IS and me isn't capable of avoiding slight shake at 1/25 sec. I should be sorting a flash out shortly. I've dismantled one of the plug in ones that come with the camera. Taken the head off and will extend the wiring. If it still works I will use velcro to attach the head to a lens hood. The 2nd option is to mount the head on the end of a small articulated telescopic aerial so it can be positioned in various ways. I've mounted the aerial on the plug in part already but then thought the velcro option is simpler and just needs a lens hood.

    Thanks for sharing.

Great focus and beautiful detail in A,B, D & E.

D being my favourite for the lighting.

It looks to be up to the job John, I think it will be even better when you sort a flash out!

I like the crop and B very much John I would colone out the tiny thing on the upper left side of the insect in B.

The area I know nothing about is flash and reflective insects. As macro lenses have been made in the past with a built in ring flash I assume that gets round the problem. Next thing if it does is how to get a diffuser to do something similar. With the head on a lens hood it's going to give pretty axial lighting anyway.

They are all quickies Binnur. Just crop, reduce and sharpen. Sometimes sharpening in and adding a bit of tone mapping if there is any blur which always seems to be down to slight shake. I should clone out both of the brown dots out but liked the out of focus fly.
