Re: Nikon Df available body only !
I'll wager quite a few will still buy it with the matching lens as it makes for a lovely combination. Plus the ones who did buy it straight away have had months and months of shooting with a camera (I'll also wager) they love to the very core of their soul so won't give a fig.

I wouldn't go as far as to call it a con. Simply a marketing strategy. We all make our decisions based on needs and financial situations. I'm currently faced with a similar situation. I'd like to pick up a V3 but it is only available in kit for in the USA. Part of the kit is a lens which I have absolutely no use for and refuse to pay for. So I live without the camera for a while. Until something similar happens with Nikon's marketing strategy and/or used ones begin to hit the market.
Capitalism. In the alternative systems we wouldn't even be having the discussion

Re: Nikon Df available body only !
Out of interest, what do you think about the Df? I was in a camera shop in a Brisbane a few months ago and was hoping to see one in action but they did not let anyone shutter test the camera, only allow holding it and gave me some BS reasons why people werent allowed to test it. Sorry for hijacking your thread

Re: Nikon Df available body only !
I tested one in a shop - great high ISO performance from the sensor but I wouldn't have thought as comfortable to hold as the more bulky grips of D600 and up over long periods of time, with the shutter release in a different position as well. Depending on what and how you shoot, the carry over of the autofocus points from the D600 could make a difference. If you're a focus and recompose shooter it's not much of a difference but if you're shooting with new and legacy primes (you never see the Df marketed or tested with a zoom after all) and shooting at or near wide open then focusing off centre rather than recomposing can be important as you'd miss critical focus - the more clustered D600 focus points could limit you.
Sounds stupid, but with the circular viewfinder window I would have expected the built in 'cover' to block out the viewfinder during long exposures as in the D700 and upwards. I haven't heard that mentioned in reviews but I'd expect it with the feature set and price point.
