Smithsonian Folklife Festival -- KENYA

I posted a thread of photos taken in the Chinese section of the Smithsonian Folklife Festival held on the Mall of Washington, DC. The photos in this thread were captured in the Kenya section. We ate a snack of fried brown rice with some delicious seasoning and a salsa that is sending me to find recipes of Kenyan food. Sorry, no photo of the food.

Nope. If I had thought of it, I would have done a better job of perfectly lining up the important horizontal line in the building with the bottom of the sign. Where were you when I needed you?

Not necessarily - it works better as is, I think, all the more so because you have everything so nicely squared up.

Knowing that you're still working on cloning technique, I'll mention something I came upon using Lightroom's cloning tool (the only tool in LR that I used to post-process the image). Notice the very bottom left corner of the third image that displays a graphical pattern. The original has the back of a person's head there. I cloned to remove the head and to add the white line positioned on the left side of the frame so it continues all the way down to the bottom of the image. Then I cloned to add the graphical pattern displayed on the right side so it would be displayed also on the left side presumably approximately where it would have been displayed if the man's head hadn't been in the way.

I mention this because we tend (or at least I tend) to think of cloning to remove something. In this case, I also cloned to add something.

Looks like one very good festival. I love the colours and the 'colour feel' of the B&W. As the pictures were downloading (we're on a piece of wet string here in the UK - superfast Broadband it ain't) the first presented a beautiful oxymoron of the White House with the flag advertising Kenya before the people appeared at the bottom - great photo.

By the way, it's the Capitol building where the U.S. Congress meets, not the White House where the president lives and works. Notice that I didn't mention that the Congress "works" there, only that they meet there; regardless of a person's political persuasion, polls indicate that almost every American feels that no work is being done in Congress.

Actually, Washington, DC is a little unusual in that most of the monuments, museums and working government buildings are entered by anyone for free. There are a lot more restrictions about entering working government buildings since 911 occurred, but, as an example, there are still free tours of the White House and the Capitol building.

It is always a pleasure to view your images. Amazing model! I especially adore all the beautiful detail and varied colours and texture in every little bit of the frame. I also like the shot of the hands, for the story, light and amazing detail.
