    Opposite to the sunset

HDR treatment of the clouds behind me while being irritated by the blah view in front of me.

As usual all critique and comment welcome. I am still trying to get a feel for this HDR stuff. Really trying not to make it look like HDR and closer to reality.

I could easily accept that solution to irritation.

I wouldn't have known it is an HDR treatment, which is a high compliment.

    Looks fine, Trevor.

Are you using one of the auto HDR programmes or creating a 'hand made' HDR with layers and masks?

I've tried a few auto software options but always went back to producing my own HDR edits with selective masking.

Hi Trevor Very nice sky. I would crop half of the area between 'blah' and the lower end of the frame to draw attention more to the clouds.

    Nicely done.

Sometimes if not always there's a better view behind me. I think Mae West said that.

What Mike said. HDR gently done, not evident. I like this very much.

Thanks Mike, I had been leery of even attempting HDR due to the falseness of some images. But I now accept it is a viable tool in some instances. Without it there was no way to get the green wheat field, the blue sky and the very bright clouds in one image

Done using NIK HDR Efex. I shot 9 images at 0.3 eV intervals but ended up only using the darkest four. Seems to me that HDR Efex wants to lighten dark areas to an unacceptable degree. At least to my taste. I have to force it to use only dark images. May be wrong and time will tell if I still believe this after some use of the program.

Lovely Trevor. Just because a tool can be used improperly, it doesn't mean that we have to use it that way. LOL! In most cases I don't mention when I tonemap images because of the bad rap poor technique has given HDR. In fact, unless it is obvious that an image couldn't be created without HDR, I never want it to be even hinted at in the finished image.

I agree. I find I look best in photos from behind and far away.

Some of the presets in NIK Efex really wig me out. Do people really want images like those?

My guess is that HDR is used improperly more than any other tool.
