    A Taste of Italy

I haven't posted for a while as we've been travelling in Europe. Thought I'd share a few shots from northern Italy. We had to endure some terrible places - Milan, Lake Como, Portofino, Cinque Terre - but someone had to do it.

    Comments welcome

Very nice shots Dave . I would crop the last photo from left to eliminate the man. Lovely lemons

Thanks John, Steven, Donald, Omega and Binnur for your comments.

Point taken about the crop on #7. I'll have a further play with that.

Omega I understand where you are coming from with the framing of #1 and #2 and in fact I have applied some perspective correction to these images (but not enough to make everything vertical). I actually preferred to have some perspective distortion in these images as it seemed more natural and gave some interesting lines. I think you are correct about the horizon being not quite level in #3, not sure about #5. As for the contrast in #5, I have to say that my personal preference is for reasonably contrasty images in general. In this case I may have gone a tad far but I'm not sure. It was late in the evening and the water was quite dark. It had a beautiful peaceful look to it.

On various trips to Italy, driving many thousands of km, you constantly see old people in the middle of nowhere walking along the road.

Then you get to Como and you realise where they're headed!

Como is stunning though - I remember it really well as a 4 and 5 yr old when my father used to work at Milan Linate airport - we used to go to Bellagio via Monza for weekends. I revisited in 2006 and through adult eyes it's even more beautiful. Much quieter than Garda but more picturesque, I think.

Oh, and full of old people, not that I have anything against them!

Dave I like contrasty images like you do. I find #5 nice as it is. You might also try adding some contrast to #4 to make the colours of the buildings stand out more

Beautiful - and I am not talking about Italy as that is taken for read.

I love the little street scene with the lemons, I am sure I walked that way a few years ago - in a rain shower. There is no way I will let my wife see these our she will have me hitching up the caravan and going over it all again.

Personally I wouldn't touch these at all, they describe Italy perfectly just as they are. Thanks for sharing them.

Thanks for your comments Jerry, Phil, Binnur, Keith and David. Keith the lemons are next to a church in Monterosso if I remember correctly (one of the Cinque Terre villages).

splendid photos, very evocative and I too like the contrast. If i would change one thing - it would be to put me behind the lens
