    Garden Beauty

Of the numerous rose captures from my garden lately, this one was the most striking. I've not done any pp ( not sure what it needs) so would appreciate your constructive comments.

    What a beauty!

Can you try and get some shots unobstructed by other buds? It is so pretty it would be nice to see it in entirety.

Although the buds are a bit distracting in the foreground, very nice rose with lovely colours

A bit too much DOF for me; which if you used a smaller aperture would make those buds a bit sharper and less distracting.

As Marie said, a pity about that bud in front of the rose. Having buds, or leaves gradually fading out of focus behind the main subject usually doesn't matter, but they do spoil the shot when in front.

I usually spend quite a bit of time arranging things around my main subject before shooting. And try several different angles. But all too often, I still miss something!

Geoff, was it you who talked of using clothespins to pin aside elements you did not want in the picture without harming them?

I know someone on CiC did this. It would be a good trick to share with Irene.

Yes, that's correct, Marie. I made a number of different contraptions of various complexities but they basically came down to a cane with clothes pegs attached.

Incidentally, I was experimenting with some flower photos today. Basically trying to insert some backgrounds behind the intended subject. Not totally successful though, although backgrounds printed on matte paper and placed behind the subject, as I sometimes use for studio type shots, did work reasonably well. But you do have to get the correct camera angle.

And for various reasons, ranging from imperfect flowers to my stupidity, most shots were ditched. But one is now on my Weekly Photo thread.

OK, found a photo of one of my plant supports.

Thank you Binnur , yes it is a very pretty rose.

John, I so appreciate your constructive comment- Thank you. I will make it a point to shoot at several apertures in the future.

Thanks Geoff- It had not even occurred to me that the front buds were distracting. I see that now. I so appreciate your tip on pinning obstructive elements out to the way. ( memo to self to throw clothes pegs in camera bag). Thanks Marie for recalling that.

I can see that I’ve a long way to go but with such constructive and informative input the ongoing learning curve will be most encouraging & enjoyable.
