One of the cardinal rules is to have your subjects, couple on the bench, facing the center of the picture
rather than the edge of it.
The one that you ignored in your pigeon picture and follow in your people pictures.Which rule is that
Nicely processed and good spotting the overall setting.
I like the processing, Melanie, it gives the scene a summery feeling
There aren't any fixed rules about photography, Melanie, just a few general suggestions. If something looks good to you, then it is correct. I see too many images which don't look good to me simply because a questionable 'rule' has been 'slavishly obeyed'.
But as a general principle, then yes, it usually appears better if the main subject is looking 'into' the scene not away to the edge. However, we then have to consider what is the main subject anyway.
So as an experiment, if you cut out the figures on the bench and replace it flipped the other way, would it improve the overall scene?
But a lot of people will argue that they photographed what was actually there and changing something to face the other way is just wrong.
No real rules here.
Another option for framing this shot would have been to show what the couple was looking at by putting them on the right side of the composition (I have no idea whether that was even picturesque but I am speaking in theory here).
Melania, I do agree with Geoff that if you like the image then who cares about the rules That is a lovely tree and the bench looks like quite a nice place to sit and have a chat.
Hi Melanie.Your main subject is 'a place' for some people and your title supports the image nicely. I like the place and the image. Why don't you upload photos more often, you should
