    Re: My Bee problems

    Hi all,

i finaly had time to do some more work with the bee stuff, i had been trying various different setups, i stuck with the 105 macro, but didnt use it at macro distances.

The real problem was lighting them, the sb 200's lens mounted didnt have enough power so i tied sb 900's on stands but this wasnt flexible enough and if the bee keeper didnt hold the frame in same place you got uneven light. Dan posted a picture of his setup ans made me realise i had all the stuff for a twin strobe camera mounted set up on my underwater gear!

another problem was getting the keeper to hold the frames vertical, they kept wanting to peek over the top at the frame to watch the queen thus angleing the bottom of the frame upwards, and so messing up the DOF.

So here is the setup i used, it needs some tweaking and ill get round to it one day....

And here is one of the shots the publisher has chosen to use for the book. Im still not completely happy with it, it still isnt as crispy as i think it should be ( i think i was too close to get the correct DOF) and the light isnt diffuse enough. This is OOC so ill read up on some PP tech now, and see how the pp makes a difference,

any comments are more than welcome
