    Wash day, Cellardyke, Fife

    Wash day, Cellardyke, Fife

Laundry drying in the evening sun along the harbour at cellardyke in Fife, Scotland...just as it has for centuries.

Something most pleasing about it as a tradition.

    All C&C welcome.

Nicely captured, the lighting has a classical feel to it.

I think this is great, quite a change from what I've (we've) come to expect. And so perfectly captured.

Super image - and those ropes can be the devil when you're walking home at night without a light !

Gorgeous image. The lighting is exquisite!

It is very helpful and indeed inspiring to see how one can photograph a laundry line and create a beautiful image. Thank you for sharing.

+1 to all that's been said Sharon and the sepia is particularly appropriate.

Great lighting, sepia is perfect for this image. One would expect a renaissance lass come out to retrieve the laundry.

Tricky lighting, Sharon, I like the affect of the sunflare, I think it adds to the industrial era atmosphere of the shot. Whose washing is it? People who live on the boats in the harbour, or nearbye residents? I was surprised to see bed sheets hanging from the mast of a boat in the local harbour a few weeks back. I thought the crew must have encountered bad weather at sea. I later realised that there is a single guy living on the boat.

Thanks Greg......it seems to be ( and always have been ) some sort of traditional 'right' that the residents can hang their washing all along the harbour wall. I think those displayed are from the local hotel.
