Yes, indeed. A photo to feel well chuffed about!

I agree with Vaez about cropping a bit off the left which for me would minimize the blurry portion of the flower leaving a pretty flower border frame.

That sure is a great 'first' attempt Mark.

My only suggestion if wishing to pursue this type of shot would be to experiment with using smaller apertures to determine results you can get with the 105. You will read lots about diffraction limitations which of course have some affect but you can't beat determining for yourself how these affect your real world results. I'm not suggesting that more DoF always gives a preferred result but at times it will give you a better chance of getting the eye all in focus.

You are definitely improving. Just as a personal taste I prefer the crop in the colour version.
I also have learned a lot from the feedback on your bee posts.

Beautiful...one day when you grow up, you can also be a bug person like Geoff and David...
Seriously I love the second crop and the rotation. It looks right even if it is not...the way you shot it.

Growing up s mandatory, Mark...as the cliché goes...but I said what I said tongue-in-cheek. In short it was a joke...Saorsa (Brian Grant) from Florida has uploaded some birdie shots of a long long time ago with the same title "When I grow up..." and it was so beautiful his post title left a mark in my brain...hahaha
