violet tail damselfly
I took this on a wooden dock, using a different arrangement than my usual bug-hunting rig: a 100mm macro, a 1.4 telextender, and a 12mm extension tube sandwiched between them. In this case, I find the foreground blur distracting. C&C welcome, of course.

Nice shot, Dan. Maybe a bit too tight in the frame (although it is a macro), but I like it. Well done. Cheers,

Hi Otavio,
Thanks. I agree with you. It is too tight, but the foreground blur was so distracting that I cropped it out, and that required cropping the top for balance.

Re: violet tail damselfly
A very shallow focus depth is one of the problems with macro close up shots, Dan. I never worry too much about cropping close. These are portraits so the normal 'portrait rules' apply; just the same as people or pet portraits.
One thing which I sometimes do is to rotate the crop a little to get the best, or miss the worst, of any background problems.
