I would try a very tight square crop including some of the stem . And then I would add a thick frame with a pale green tone of the stem. Just an idea
Very nice. White flowers are tricky.
Lovely capture Frank!
Very beautiful. Would be lovely in a frame.
No comments on exposure or color. Looks good to me. There is a bit of posterization of the BG. If you're shooting this an a controlled setting a darker BG would be awesome. I'd try a 4x5 crop tight against the leaf on the right side. Might also clone out the partial leaf at bottom right. Nicely done.
My first thoughts were exactly the same as previously mentioned. Basic shot is good but I would crop to 4 x 5 or square. A fraction more stem would work fine
In addition to my post above, if you are not decided to stick with the colour of the image , a pinkish sepia would suit the flower very well
Have you tried putting this on a black background so it will stand out? I like the exposure. White is so hard to get right really...But I love this one. The bright room I am in right now doesn't help any either. 'Don't have much choice at the moment as I am here downstairs cooking dinner in between taking care of our lovely critters.
Hi, Izzie. Nice to hear from you. I've missed your virtual smile around here of late. I completely agree that a black BG would be wicked.
Be careful what you say...Frank will experiment this shot to death if we let him...(awwww the smilies doesn't work in this pooter..) LOL
Are you accessing this on land or are you in your boat with Grace and Paige? Aw silly me...how can you when you have Grace on your lap? Fuggetaiseddat! hahaha
Hi Binnur, A square crop and frame would work well with this image. I'm a bit short of time but I'll go back and play with it a bit more later. Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback Nick, John, David and Irene.
Yes Dan, I noticed the posterization as well. It looks like it was caused by the gradient but I'm not sure why. I know that a darker background would work well, particularly a 'blackground' but I was trying to see what else might be pleasing without going full blown high key.
Geoff and Izzie, several folks have mentioned the tighter crop and I almost did that with this one as well as the black background but I was concerned that too many images processed identically can get to be boring so I was trying to find other approaches that might be acceptable as well.
From the comments, it seems that the white flower processing has worked well but the background and cropping not so well.
Thank you all so very much for the feedback and guidance as I find more interesting and different ways to present common subjects.
Good morning, Frank!
What a lovely flower!!!! White can be most difficult to work with. One of my white ones just bloomed also, so I am picking up tips from your thread.
I would say a "blackground" and a different ratio crop. I don't know about the same type background being "boring" . I am learning that the presentation of the bloom is most important.

FWIW Frank, this guys technique http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jfz_ffomXUY might look great
when used with a white flower. It's on my bucket list.
I always appreciate your wise consul, particularly where Amaryllis are concerned Marie!
I'll give it another go. I tried the square crop but couldn't fit the frame as I had too little stem to work with so I went with 4x5 instead. I also picked up on a previous comment about using a dark green background but not wanting to risk going too far from a blackground, chose a Charleston Green which is almost black. For your C&C, this is how the result looked...
Should I clone out the lower RH leaf to make it more 'typical'?
Lovely!!!!!! Brava!!!!!! Look at how the detail in the white petals stand out!!
The bit of leaf is so muted, it does not detract.
Very nice BG Frank
Your comments are so very much appreciated Marie and Binnur.
I'm still on my business trip, which got extended by another three weeks. I haven't been able to do much shooting this time around. Can't wait to get back to home so I can see if I've captured anything worthwhile!
