    Fudge the Friendly Fly

Fudge was found walking around in circles on the floor and seemed to have no intention of flying off. Tempted onto a piece of paper and moved outside he remained so ended up back inside on the stage for a session.

All shot at 1/250s with the 105 and the two SR200s on the front, tubes between 36 and 48mm and handheld.

    No 1 - f/22

    No 2 - f/25

    No 3 - f/29
    Fudge the Friendly Fly

No 4 - f/36, ISO400 - just because I could and to demonstrate what the 105VR will produce at this

Following the session I carefully placed the pebble he was on outside where he remained for 10 minutes and flew off.

Ah...Grahame....what sort of paper did you put him on to pose for you? Fly paper???? ))) Is that why you call him Fudge?
All very good shots...my vote goes to the "In Your Face" pose -- #2. #1 I like the top of his legs, the hair are all well and sharply done there. #3 looks good too in the pose department though I still like #2...and the last one -- just because..........but of course...what you sez.

    Hi Izzie, How are you?

Fly Paper good one. I called him fudge because of the colour, just came natural. It's No 2 for me as well but I still have another 20 odd to sort through and now wondering why I took so many.

It amazes me that sometimes insects will just hang around with seemingly no fear of use and other time, you can't get near them.
All nice stuff Grahame but for me #3 is the pick of them.
    Cheers, Greg

It certainly makes things easier when they co-operate Greg, if I had of known I could have got the tripod out

Beauties! (amazing captures) I'm torn between #2 and #3 as my favourites, and right now it is #3 for the pose, and I've just changed my mind... #1 for the amazing head on close-up capture and softer colours.

Thanks David, I have not got a clue what make it is but it has quite a short body similar to the robber flies. It was the eyes and the colouring of them that attracted me and I was quite pleased that with the flash setup there were no significant reflections and blowouts.

    Cheers, Grahame

Hi Christina, I also have problems choosing favourites but it's great when you manage to get a few decent shots of the same model.

Thanks Binnur, looks like No 1 is in the lead. The colours are straight out of camera, auto WB, I had a play around changing WB but decided as the background was near enough right I just left as it was. I have a white balance card but always forget to use it.

    Hi Grahame,

I meant to include #2 in my choices (head on and softer colours) So they are #1 & #2, followed by #3 for the pose and angle.
