The point is we should always be remembering that all the potential audience is going to have as reference is exactly what you portray in your image. So, if something like this could cause confusion, we need to make it clearer what it is, or not include it.

    Good lesson to have learned.
I hear what you are saying about this and agree up to a point. Of course, we want an audience to enjoy and understand the image, but we can't communicate to everyone. Our art is a portrayal of what speaks to us and some will get it and others won't.

As to this image, I love it. I like the composition. The tub does draw the eye, but you figure out what it is and then go back to that interesting shed. I suspect that those that didn't understand what it is just didn't spend the time to see it. (Not a criticism, just the nature of busy forums ) But then again, my perspective is skewed as I happen to have a couple of old tubs on my property as well. They'll probably stay there too as those old things are cast iron and way to heavy for me to move!

I really like the tones and the angles in this. As to the verticals not being vertical, well, old fences and sheds typically aren't. It just adds to the old and possibly abandoned feel of the place.

While I think that's largely true, there are exceptions especially depending on the situation. We can make an image that satisfies the needs of others when it doesn't satisfy our own needs and vice versa. I have the luxury of only having to satisfy myself. That luxury allows me to portray what speaks to me, as you mention, but not everyone has that luxury.

The timing of your post caught me at the perfect moment. I just now took a break form working on a few images that I could post-process as I think most people would prefer but I'm taking a less aggressive approach because doing so reminds me more of what spoke to me in the scene as I witnessed it.

And thanks for your appreciation of what I felt and was trying to do.

I'm glad my image is prompting this sort of discussion. It's by reading posts like this and thinking about them that, I think, we learn.
