Bollards On Parade might be an alternative title.
Nice simple scene which comes together well.
nice B&W
Thanks for the comments.
Dave, so true but the least expensive option.
Geoff, the bit in brackets is because when I checked, "Bollards" doesn't have as broad a meaning in the US. Apparently, what we know a s traffic bollards are more normally known as posts. Bollards are for securing boats and ships. That is according to sources on the internet but I stand to be corrected.
Nice capture John, and very well spotted although as Dave mention's, woman, shoe shop lots of spare time
Like it - well seen, nicely captured and nicely balanced
Nice one John, I do like the image, I hope the wait wasn't too expensive.
Have you considered having those dreaded double lines showing their true colour, just a thought feel free to ignore my ramblings
John, this is a great shot. Apart from the arrangement of the sentinels, you have the texture and patterning in the paving to occupy the viewer.
Your wife must have been in that shop for an awfully long time: the streets are deserted.
Thanks David, Mark, Peter and Greg.
Peter, I hadn't considered that. I think if I colour pop the no parking lines it would tend to draw the eye away from the subject.
Greg, this was taken in a small town up in the Pennines called Skipton. Has a canal and an active boating community but more importantly, they have reached a happy compromise between keeping the old but developing a vibrant community (including shoe shops). Great for photographers but something for everyone.
I nearly choke on your comment, Greg...his wife actually looked out of the window and saw him taking shots of the bollards so she decided to buy two more pairs...it takes a while to find the right size and the right look you know...
John...the main bollard reminds me of the inspection officer looking for imperfections from the soldiers coming towards him...I like the story, whatever it may be that one can create by just this one picture alone...like the texture too...
John 2, simple and elegant shot and the B&W conversion is great as well.
[As to the 'Bollards', the posts, as shown in your photo actually are referred to, in the U.S. as...bollards. It is the technical name and laypersons may very well call them posts, but incorrectly. Much the way they manage to confuse rafter, joist and stud, plumb and level.]
Thanks Izzie, thanks Jack.
Izzie, that's what I saw. A company commander marshalling his troops.
Thanks Jack. As always, you can't take the internet at face value.
I like the way you thought to centre the forward post between the two rear ones John, easy to miss that.
Beautifully taken and great PP. As much as I like the diagonally opposing circular segments I am not sure about the placement of the main post. Perhaps send your wife back into the shop so you have get some extra time to try out a few more angles... Have you tried cropping just below the windows?
Thanks Graham, thanks LP. LP, a lower crop makes it look cramped but I can see why you suggest it.
