matte black vs photo black ink
on my epson 3880 i have the option of matte black or photo Black, i understand that i need to use the matte black ink for B&W printing and so when i print B&W i just swap them automatically, Is this the correct thing to do with all ink/paper combinations or do i need to experiment with the black/paper combination

Re: matte black vs photo black ink
I think you understand incorrectly. The two inks are more related to the paper type than anything else. Photo papers have a resin coating, hence the "photo" ink, whereas normal papers (including the cotton cold press and hot press ones) do not. The reflectivity and ink absorbtion differ between these two paper types.
Resin coated photo papers = photo black ink; and
Uncoated papers = matte black.

And I find for "normal" printing (letters etc) on plain paper matt black is the one to use. Photo black looks too grey.
