    Hornet

A few images of a large Hornet taken the other day, having watched these guys take Worker Bees at their leisure, and about a year ago getting a very nasty sting from one, I am normally very cautious when any are around, but this guy was very photogenic The next day I found out why, he must have been on his last legs when I found him as later that day I found him dead!

    C&C Welcome.

All beauties...David...there's a little bit of the 'aged' look in #3 too...the marking on the leaf it was on seems to reflect on his head back and face. #2 looks like a struggled pose. #1 is my favourite of all three of them. He will always look like an alien, dead or alive I suppose...I was trying to find something funny. I can't.

Good series David, very similar to the ones we have here but I don't recall seeing the extra eyes on top of the head. It's difficult to pick a favourite, but I'll have to go for No 1 he looks most energetic in that one

These guys can get quite angry, as you know.

    Cheers, Grahame

Very nice David, #1 is my pick and you and I have both been savaged by these beasties then, nasty bad tempered little buggers but an interesting subject to photograph if you're brave enough

If the sting matches the colors is must have been very painful. All of the hornets I've seen in North America are black and white/yellow. Nicely captured.

    Re: Hornet

Amazing as always. This is also the 1st time I've seen the 2nd set of eyes on a hornet. My favourite is #3 for the moment captured.
