    Early Birds

    Early Birds

    Hi!
It's been while since I have posted.
My first attempt at a sunrise. Typical of my intelligence I suddenly decide to do this and it is mid winter and it is really cold, 3degrees centigrade duh.
So tell me was it worth it or not. I need your C&C.
    Cheers Colin.

Well, looks like you had plenty of company for such a treacherous adventure. A crop off the right would make for a stronger image as the pier leading line is taking us to a calm, empty horizon. Nice effort.

    Re: Early Birds

In the most beautiful place on earth, you are complaining of cold at 3 degrees. Try reading that at 37.4 degree Fahrenheit so you do not feel too bad... The Canadians are still wearing their shorts and T-shirts and having fun barbecuing in their backyard with ...and cold beer...ha!

That aside, this shot is worth keeping ... it has a lot o potentials there. If you can go back, try shooting this again on different angles and different lighting conditions. In this shot, the colours are lovely and the people you included in it forms the human elements to show the expanse of the place. Just my 10c opinion...(inflation)

Take a look at this site:
    http://www.waylandscape.co.uk

The Landscape Photographer of 2009 shot is something similar as John (Shadowman) suggested for you to do.

Hi Colin I like this image, as others have said it is a calm image I too have a couple of suggestions for you
    1. A slight counter clockwise rotation to straighten the horizon.
    2. Maybe a crop to remove some of the foreground.

    Izzie,

There is a similarity in Colin's image and the one's in the link in terms of style and elements used.

Exactly what I was thinking. Level the horizon and crop to lose about half of the foreground. Which means a different size ratio or lose something from one or both sides. Several options which would work equally well.

    Hi Colin

+1 to what Peter and Geoff have said. I'd also consider pushing up the saturation of the reds and cyans a bit.

It's a nice image but you might get a better one if you go back and re-shoot when there are some clouds about. These add interest to the sky and also some colour if you get the timing right.

    Cheers Dave,
I can go back. I think I shot it too early. Should have waited for more light then I might have gotten a more interesting sky.
Thank you for taking the time.

Geordie...from South Australia to Canada -- 10 minutes drive? What sort of car are you driving -- one that has the Mach 3 engine of the Lockheed SR1 Black Bird? I wish I can borrow your one to visit my beautiful grandchild in Melbourne...

Oh btw, your edit looks good...better...even if I am in my crappy desktop that I have a hard time typing in...
