Oh my God, what are these How big are they David? #1 has reliefs and #2 is really scary with that weird long head. But IMO #2 is a very good image, very interesting subject with nice colours, good posture, BG is nice and not distracting and the upper body is sharp

Cheers Binnur, weird looking eh! #1 was 5-10mm and #2 about 5mm, I walked past it 2 or 3 times before I realized it was a bug

    Re: Prehistoric?

There are several similar bugs to your first image. We get quite a few Coreus marginatus around here; but I suspect that one looks more like Stromastes rhombeus.

I would need more angles to even give a suggestion for the second bug.

Nicely captured. I think that second one was the inspiration for the creatures in Starship Troopers and Pitch Black.

Cheers again Geoff with the I.D.

The second one never moved from this position in the bush, so this was the only angle I was able to get

Looking at other images this chap was from the same area, I think from the leafhopper family, maybe they are related?

I just love #2...nice sharp and alien looking...I'd hate to see a gorilla size of that!!!
#1 is old looking, with Egyptian markings at the back...looks really ancient...the coat of a King of sorts at its back.
Not commenting on #3...it's a butt shot.

Going back to bed...it's 5:03am here...

    Re: Prehistoric?

Checked my other book, David, so for #2 have a look at Dictyophara europaea or something similar.

    Never found one myself though.
