    Deliverance

A life raft of hope in this dark and troubled world. Born yesterday @ 5:54pm. Born again today @ 4:45pm.

Love the golden light reflections on the water and that stillness Colin, good one.

Hi Colin I have a question about this lovely image. It seems to be a long exposure shot but the boat looks sharp enough. So didn't it move at all while shooting or what did you do to make it look sharp?

    Hi Binnur,

That shot was taken at 1/200th -- it just happened to be that there was no wind, so the water was calm.

Usually with boat shots you can get away with a second or two in those kinds of conditions, but ultimately they often "swirl" around quite a lot in the currents.

Here's what happens typically happens over a 4 minute period:

    Deliverance

As for the title, it is hinting, but to me, the point is not quite clear, if there is a particular point. Nicely done image, though.

Indeed stunning shot! & Greg, that's NZ, find yourself in the back blocks of Colac & the Otways over here.... That's way more like your (that sort) of 'Deliverance remake landscape'

    Re: Deliverance

Thanks folks. Does the title refer to the movie though?

Just to put you all out of your misery, here's how I came up with it ...

"We live in a troubled world - in the past few weeks we've heard of missiles bringing down passenger aircraft - hundreds of deaths on the Gaza strip - suicide bombs killing dozens. I'd go so far as to say it's a "dark-mood world" - and here we have a "dark-mood" photo.

"At the top of the photo we have light piercing through the cloud - some people call this lighting "fingers of God" and at the bottom of the image we have a boat - illuminated in part by "the light of God"

"And with a little imagination, you can almost visualise the small boat (symbolic of a life raft) being "pushed out of the darkness by the hand of God" - the "deliverance" of an opportunity for rescue in this dark and troubled and stormy world."

So there you go (ironically, I'm not religious though!)

    Thanks for the explanation.

That is ironic, so I understand it was just some exercising of the imagination, to you.
