Nice evolution, though not enough by far for me to change my camera (d800e), but I am intrigued about 14.8 stops dynamic range and somewhat surprised that high ISO performance is not better.

Well I suppose the D800 sensor was a bit of a quantum leap so it's to be expected that changes for the D810 would be minimal.

It seems that any advantage found in the tests, can be attributed to the lower native ISO, which came down from 100 in the D800/E to 64 in the D810.

IMO the dxomark test procedure falls down with high rez sensors. But that's a topic for another thread...

I was surprised that with the success of the D800/E, Nikon decided to go with a completely different sensor in the D810. With only marginal improvements over the 800 in the base case, the new sensor added an element of risk for anyone considering an upgrade. Though it appears the D700 holdouts are finally crossing over. The used market seems to be flooding with 700s in the past couple of weeks.

All that said, I love the D800 so much that even the marginal increase in fps and claimed noise performance was enough to lure me in... But the quiet shutter is a pleasant and welcome surprise It is REALLY quiet and hopefully the wave of the future for full frame bodies.
