The Old Pier, Clevedon, Somerset, England
I love this old Victorian structure, recently renovated to near original condition after years of neglect. I consider it very photogenic, too. C&C, please.

Nice composition, Greg. The leading line created by the pier points so nicely to the clouds that you might want to consider bringing out the detail and drama in them. Also consider increasing your mid-tone contrast throughout the entire image.

Mike - thanks for your comments. I'll try a few experiments with curves and contrast.

My only complaint is that the flag isn't nicely fluttering. Probably something which was outside your control though.

I like the composition too Greg - a very pleasing image. I also think that adding a bit of contrast would enhance it.

Thanks - I've been messing with curves to give the clouds and Welsh coastline an increased impact. Right about the flag, though!

Very nice spot indeed, old buildings just draw you in don't they.
I do find myself wanting to take a step to the right though, just to get a teeny pixel or 2 more on the art of the window.

I used to fish of that Greg as a member of the pier fishing club before the end was rebuilt . Good idea to take the shot at low water. The area is thought to have one of the highest tidal ranges in the world. There is even a plaque mentioning that. Many locals doubt this but high tide does runs off at an incredible rate thanks to the river Severn running into the sea not far from there. The water really piles up. I'd bet there is still a slight bend in the middle parts thanks to that.
It's a really nice photo.
I understand a lot of the rebuild particularly the end was funded by a local hotel as they landed customers on the pier at times. More was funded via name plaques on each of the seats that run along both sides and public donations.

Yes, see what you mean. I took 4 or 5 other shots at slightly different angles and they each have their own merits. Thanks!

I think the Bristol Channel has the second highest tidal reach in the world. Thanks for the history, the pier restoration really has been a success story. I hope its financial future is secure.

Thanks. I got into photography backwards via computing and photo-editing, so I find that in response to my bad old ways I'm rejecting too much editing in favour of "honest" photography!
