Bowl of Cherries

I took this photo inside on my kitchen table. The light was natural coming from a window and an open door behind the camera.

Nicely done with good sharp detail and the choice of table cover compliments the image. I like it.

I will go the other way, Ali...I like the bowl of cherries and the ones on the table, but it will look better with a prop like a knife, pit picker (remover) or another background. Can you re-shoot or the cherries had already been consumed by now? Just asking...

This sort of scene is always far more difficult than it looks. You have the main lighting working OK but the background is a bit messy. Trouble is that without some form of artificial backcloth or other lighting it will be difficult to get anything better.

Possibly a little bit of selective adjustment to the background and possibly a different crop to lose a little from the sides, where the main problems occur?

Thank you for your comments. I wasn't sure if the table cloth would over power the subject, but think the cherries stand out from the background.

Thanks for commenting. The table cloth was left over from 4th of July holiday and still on the table. I could try a different one or remove it altogether. I like your idea of adding another prop. I can shoot this again since cherries are plentiful this season.

Thanks for your comments. I did add a dark vignette to the background. Would it help if it were removed or lightened?

I like the lighting in this. Perhaps a plain white tablecloth would work. If you move the table or maybe just the bowl further from the wall the background would be out of focus enough to make the subject pop out more. You could also try different color bowls. There are endless possibilities in a still life image. Just my two cents.

I think the image works as shapes and colors, but if you want to emphasize the cherries more; eliminate any similar colors.

Hello Ali: I like the composition of this image, particularly the three cherries in the foreground. For some reason, I do think the choice of tablecloth does work. I tend to have an instant "like or dislike" for an image the moment it appears on screen and for this shot my first reaction was that it was quite pleasing.
