Lofoten, Norway: #4 - hiking Offersoykammen mountain into and out of the clouds

It was Sunday morning and we were about to take our first hike in Lofoten. We got to the trail head and saw that the path would take us up the side of a mountain into the very low-lying clouds.

We went to a different area and checked out Offersoykammen mountain. We saw a cloud line below the summit to its left but everything else was bright sunshine. So we began the hike and by the time we got to the summit, we were at the clouds -- partly above them and partly in them. We looked down upon them and even saw two full-circle rainbows that are usually seen only from aircraft. The summit comes to a point that was literally parting the cloud flow; it went to the left and right of us. The clouds prevented us from seeing some unbelievable scenery but we forgave them because they also provided a magical experience unlike anything we have enjoyed.

The second image was captured by my wife and post-processed by me. (No, the person in the image is not me. I don't look that good.) The last image is a three-file stitch.

The first shot is stunning Mike - nice capture and processing on a lovely scene. I can only image the 'magical' feeling you had on that hike. Your wife's shots is a nice stand alone image and it really that adds context to your story. Make it mono and you have a nice pair

It's very hard to imagine that the last shot was taken on the same day! What a beautiful vista to witness emerging as you descended through the clouds. It this one multiple shots stitched together?

BTW, did I miss #3 in the series as I don't recall seeing it and I know I would have looked

Sorry about that! I accidentally skipped number 3. My next series will be that number.

All lovely, but I'm in love with the 1st image ( and I love it in B&W) and also your wife's image (gorgeous). I also like your wife's image with a bit cropped off of the back (just behind that jutting and in front of the rock), and maybe a little bit off of the top, only because it gives me a feeling of solitude and beauty being enveloped in the beautiful mist, along with the perspective of looking down.

Thank you to Irene and Victor.

    Victor,

If you download the images to your computer, you should be able to review all EXIF data, as neither I nor my upload process removes it. Having said that, one person a long time ago said it wasn't being displayed, so please get back to me if that's also true for you.

As for the post-processing, it would be best if you would please ask about a particular image or images so I can narrow that down for you.

    Hi Mike,

Terrific series. Looks like you and wifey had fun.

I like this view. Is it panorama? Any special notes about editing it.

    Waiting for more views/photos.

    Thanks Mike.

Re: Lofoten, Norway: #4 - hiking Offersoykammen mountain into and out of the clouds

    Victor,

The last image is a combination of three photos that I captured from the outset with the intent to stitch them together. I wrote a note about that on a piece of paper and took a photo of the note so I would remember once I returned home a couple weeks later.

Not having ever stitched photos, I post-processed the first image and copied and pasted all of the adjustments to the other two to maintain as much uniformity as possible. Even so, I wondered if some inconsistencies would appear once the three images were stitched. If that happened I knew I could instead start over and post-process the stitched image as one image. As it turned out, there was only one adjustment that I had to make to the stitched image -- eliminating the haze in the hills and mountains in the background.

If more details would be helpful, don't hesitate to mention it.

Interesting set, Mike. Looks like you had a good time. The pano is excellent. A lot of people don't realize how beautiful the sea water can be in high latitude climates.

As others have said - a terrific set. The colour in your wife's picture is wonderful.

    Allen or "Lurchy" is fine

Love the series, the first one i really really love! Love the rugid texture of the mounting being intertwined by the smoothness of the clouds. The B&W treatment is really great.

Great shots. You have certainly made the first photo very dramatic with your B&W conversion.
