Lofoten, Norway: #3 - unusual clouds

My fourth series of photos of Lofoten (out of order by accidentally numbering it incorrectly) is about hiking into and out of the clouds. Indeed, the clouds would suddenly appear and disappear rapidly throughout Lofoten and in low-lying formations that I am not accustomed to seeing. The two photos shown below are examples of that.

The first photo was captured by my wife and post-processed by me.

What odd roads they've got there. Interesting how the clouds appear to be below the mountain.

WOW! I loved #2 Mike, I would clone the tilted lamp post on the left though. May I ask if there are special instructions to follow for a photographer to shoot such a scene decently? Do you expose for fog or how do one has to expose to shoot such a scene ?

Nah. I love the character that it adds and that it is so prominently displayed.

You asked about exposing for fog. Actually, that's a cloud in this image but the way to expose is the same whether it's fog or cloud. Come to think of it, I don't actually know the scientific difference between the two or if there is one.

My solution to obtaining ideal exposures regardless of the scene is to do my best at exposing the first capture, checking the histogram, and adjusting the exposure if needed before retaking the photo. In the case of this photo, I captured the scene with nobody on the highway to check the histogram. I then waited for automobiles and motorcyclists to enter the scene, knowing that I wouldn't have to change the exposure settings.

Sorry Mike, I was going to write 'cloud' but I wrote 'fog' by mistake. The title is related to clouds anyway. Thanks for the explanation

Fog is low to the ground and can be freezing cold.

    PS Great images.

When standing on the summit of the mountain in the middle of a cloud, the cloud is also on the ground and can be freezing cold.

Hmmm. I have yet to meet a cloud that is as cold as the fog that I experienced here last year. In due time, no doubt.
