Are you sure you can't set the rendering intent when you set up other colour spaces. "Relative intent only" makes sense when an image has been adjusted in the correct gamut for output as there shouldn't be any out of gamut colours. Coming from prophoto there maybe so perceptual will try and get them all in. Really, at least the way I work, this area should be sorted from raw. This link explains what goes on rather well. It's worth reading about absolute colourmetric as well.

When it comes to bit depth settings on things I suspect this really just mean that a lower bit depth gamut can be mapped into a larger one. It needs mapping. I can move a raw image straight into a 48bit colour space. As would be expected as the dynamic range of the space is larger, 12 or 14 going to 16 it comes out rather dark. It's still dark when that is mapped to the displays bit depth.
What I read about Adobe products in this gamut area confuses me especially as I have tried to find out how to set it up for others. I still wonder if one way or the other it has these settings kicking about but I know not where. This is from GIMP docs when it was pure 24bit.
Maybe some site or person will let people into the Adobe secret some time. As it is I have downloaded images that the person who produces them thinks are sRGB and the turn out to be aRGB,
