The Coneheads are watching me!

Long-winged Coneheads, a type of cricket. Generally not over common but at this particular site there is a fairly small clearing which has plenty of them this year.

You don't get any success by looking for them, the best way is to do something else so their curiosity makes them approach you.

When you feel all those eyes on your back, turn around and they all hide behind stems, but peep around just enough to keep an eye on you. A bit like something from a horror film as they silently watch from their hiding places!









A damp site with rushes and grass about two feet high so a little tricky to find suitable camera angles. And as you move around to get a better angle these little critters also move around their individual stem, so it is difficult to get a clear view of them.

Seriously...I love them all especially the expressions of 1 and 4...it is all on the look...the eyes. Lovely really...

Thanks for the comments. Yes, Coneheads really do have a bit of 'attitude'. They have always been one of my favourite species amongst the 'grasshopper clan' but normally difficult to locate in these numbers.
