Certainly a lot different to the way it is done around here!

Good composition, John. The street sweeper's head / mask takes attention immediately, and then I look at the rest of her attire and equipment and the broom handle leads back up to the two women in the background. The juxtaposition of the street sweeper in working clothes, carrying a bucket of rubbish, with the other two in modern dress, carrying an armload of shopping bags invites the reader to contrast the social situations of the women and the street sweeper.

The alignment of the column in the background with the body line of the street sweeper suggests that she is an integral part of the social structure but goes unseen -as the shoppers' heads are turned away from her - but her stance shows she has dignity.

I'd say this is a great example of street photography.

    Greg,

Thanks for the comments and interpretation, it agreed totally with how I saw the shot.

I just love the subject's stance. You might want to try converting to black-and-white using any of several effective color filters to make the subject stand out even more.

Hi John I like the image, I agree with Mike about trying B&W. BTW your exif data shows very low light conditions, but it doesn't seem dark at all

    Hi Binnur,

Thanks for the comments. It was late in the evening but the scene was also illuminated by large neon billboards.
