    Rain at the summit

The elevation is 1781 metres. It was raining, we had gone with the intent to capture wild flowers. Too wet to walk in the grasses so this was the result of our outing.
Same lake for both captures. I know they both lack sharpness, but how about the exposure?
    All c&c appreciated.

I think you can get away with a fraction more brightness, Irene. But keep the shadows fairly dark and watch out for over exposure in the clouds.

With the second image, I would try a very slight crop from the top and left side; but not too much!

Hi Irene. I think your exposure reflects a rainy day well, so I wouldn't change it. I like #2 but the half big tree on the left really distracts. So I would crop half of it and I would also crop some of the sky for a better look. When you frame your images it is better not to frame with cropped trees , with cropped people or with cropped buildings. You might eliminate the whole tree or include all of it while framing next time

I thought I like #1 but I changed my mind...love #2 better. That little extra stem of the fir is a little bit distracting at the top and crop a little bit from the strongest twig at the left side of the shot. Otherwise it is a good shot.

    Re: Rain at the summit

I prefer the second mainly because the visual lead in works better. Unless I am very careful I find that making a viewer look over things or the line of sight being obstructed by foreground objects is hard to make work effectively.

Actually if you crop a bit of the bottom of your first shot it becomes a little more of a framed entry rather than a entry to the photo blocked by flowering plants but it is still a more restricted visual path than #2..

    Hi Irene.

You asked about the exposure. Both images are quite dark on my monitor. I would lighten up the dark areas to see more detail.

The white flowers and large green leaves block the view of lake, shoreline and reflections in the top image. It might have been better if you had found another location from where to shoot.

As others have said, the bottom photo would benefit from cropping. The two big logs in the immediate foreground draw attention to themselves, and yet they are not the main subject nor are they very interesting. Suggest cropping them off. On the left side, I know others have said to crop off the entire tree, but I might leave a small sliver.

This lake appears to be a great location to photograph. Definitely worth going back.
