    Looking up in Canberra

A couple of images from my archive from a trip earlier this year to NZ and Oz. Non of my Canberra images had been processed until today.
As always your thoughts/critique are most welcome, enjoy.

The first image was made on the roof of the Parliament House. Shows the 81-metre high flag mast, with some very harsh sunlight on the top. The flag mast is apparently one of the world's largest stainless steel structures and is recognised as an Australian national icon.
Not only were you able to visit the roof of the building you could also watch the debates going on in the chamber of the house, which was interesting to see. The view from the roof is amazing you can look across the city from the roof.

#2 Looking across the City, the red colour in the top middle is part of the Anzac Way, apparently the crushed red brick surface represents the blood shed during various conflicts which New Zealand and Australia armed forces have been involved. At the head of Anzac Way is the Australian War Memorial Museum, a visit to which was infinitely better than listening to the politicians in full flow in the chamber of the house. Having said that I wouldn't have missed either of them.
The water plume which you can see at the left is the "Captain Cook Memorial Jet" which from memory operates once a day. So I supposed, living as I do in his birthplace it would have been rude of me not to capture the moment.

    I did not know that.
I like that photo, though, and the symmetrical placement makes for a powerful composition.

Nice shots Peter. I like the perspective on the flagpole and the sky is fabulous in the second image.

Peter, just a note...on the second shot, without losing the plume of the Captain Cook Memorial Jet, you could have moved a little bit to the right to lose that street and centre your shot to put the Australian War Memorial in the centre. You see, there is a little rule to that war memorial and other Shrine of Remembrance (as it is called in Melbourne) in each states of Australia...they are constructed in such a way that there should not be any road linking the two points of the building. There should also be an unobstructed line of view from a certain point ....(from Wikipedia as reference)... from the front balcony of the Parliament House to the War Memorial and then the front steps of the War Memorial back to the Parliament house as in the case of the Canberra one. The one from Melbourne also has an unobstructed view from Ceremonial Road towards the City of Melbourne. Just from memory, someone told me this a lonnnnnnnggggggg time ago now. I was 21 at the time. I haven't forgotten and never will.
