Waxing moon (this could get seriously expensive)

We have an 8" reflector and an 8" SCT. If I decide to hook up the camera to the scopes this could get seriously expensive.

Unless you want to get into full astrophotography, depending on your mount, it shouldn't get expensive. If you have a tracking mount, about all you'd need is a coupler to attach your camera to your scope. I have a 16" dob in an observatory, but it doesn't have tracking, so I'm content not to go "deeper" in that direction.

It is my first shot of the moon in a dark sky and I am pleased with it. Just a coupler is a good idea but it took a lot to overcome aperture fever and i am not sure my immune system is up to a serious bout of astro-photography. (I know my bank account isn't)

For the first shot of the moon, you defintely got a winner! Detail is excellent! Brian I'm aquainted with aperture fever; I started with an 8" dob, ending up with the 16" and an Observatory! I also have 60mm & 80mm refractors. Right now however, my main interest is photography.

Amateur Visual Astronomy has been an interest of mine for almost 15 years. We actually built our garden to be enjoyed in the night as well as the day. We went so far as to include a moongate in our roof that at the right time of the year frames the full moon.

Yes I do. At least if the perpetual cloud cover would clear off I would. For the last three years 80% of the nights have been cloudy.
