    Art Shot II

Same subject (leather and feather) as my earlier posting; but this time on a black background.

This was a tough lighting job, trying to separate the black parts of the figure from the black seamless background.

Just a short note for those people that say that sRGB is good enough; I lost enough crispness in the red in my coversion that I went back and boosted the saturation a bit to try to compensate. It sort of works, but the depth of colours was definitely lost.

Note my last comment Newly used LED lighting
My ETTR method has been a little too much to the right if ya work in ProPhoto and
    plan on converting to sRGB.

Then don't ETTR. This shot, which because of all of the black should be super noisy, but it's not, and the bulk of the values are on the left side of the histogram. I agree with Colin; expose properly and you won't need to worry about ETTR.

And yes, it is a ProPhoto to sRGB conversion.

I like this one even better because of the dancer's strut. This guy really has attitude!

Thank you Binnur - I agree that the pose is nicer, but I didn't want exactly the same pose in both shots. The other thing going for the black background is that that colours have a lot more "pop" than against the white background.

I greatly appreciate both shots on different bkgrnds of this figure!
The rendition of the original post in the thread is my favourite.

I like this version even more; as it does away with the shadows on a light background.

The combination of the pose and the black background give this one a very slight edge over the version on the white background for me. However, I do like the sense of movement that the shadow provides in the first image.

You have some lovely subjects to photograph by the way Quite an eclectic collection and I hope that you don't get bored in your basement studio and continue to show us the beautiful objects that you live with every day.
