Who are you?

Taken years ago, I resurrected and reprocessed it from my archive. This was during my Blurism Phase when I shot exclusively with Lensbaby and Holga. Focus and camera settings are all manual. The camera was a cheap Canon Rebel XT/ 350D (circa 2003) that had an 8 megapixel sensor. It's long dead now after thousands of shots. As everything was in manual mode, my set up taught me a lot in composition and understanding exposure. Thanks for looking. Cheers.

A cliche? Perhaps, but "filling up the frame" does it!

Hi rob, interesting concept and yes in itself it works well,

however for me Nope, nada, no cigar i feel that the image would have help more power and raw emotion had the whole thing been in focus, now i know you have the fully focused image somewhere so come on lets see it and see if you can change my mind

Hi Mark. It's supposed to be blurred! That's what Lensbaby is supposed to deliver. At least I know I don't have to share my stash of Cuban Cohiba cigars with you on this one :-) I'm still thinking how I could bribe you to change your mind. Cheers.

i dont smoke, but i do drink! im easily bribed with a beer, but where your going to find a pint of traditional English ale in California, i dont know..... if i drink enough beer the whole thing will be blurred... problem solved

Ah, my dear Mark, you underestimate the power of Google and e-commerce :-)

I'm more of an IPA guy when it comes to beer. Have you tried Stone IPA? It's brewed here locally. You see, we Californians are not as unsophisticated as some might think. Let me know your poison. Cheers.

A classic example of what Robert Capa suggested; "if your image isn't good enough, you're not close enough". Close enough for sure in this shot; and nicely framed too.

I'm not sure I like what the lensbaby did to your subject's eye though; I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to the eye closest to the camera being in focus.

Rob I have just noticed something distracting on the right glass of him. It is something like a stain, IMO you can clone it easily BTW Good morning

Agreed, hence I think that part of the face might have looked better without the blur.

Günaydın, Binnur. Thanks for noticing and further comment. The thing on her eye glasses is probably a stain or a lens flare, which I actually cloned out in the beginning. But then I decided to bring it back. I thought this little imperfection went well with her personality. As you may have noticed in my other work, I tend to leave some imperfections as I feel they enhance the natural beauty of the image. Cheers.

Thanks, Manfred. Trying to recall my vision when I shot this years ago. I may have been going for angst and uncertainty, which was a major theme in my Lensbaby work. Part of the process for me was to make the viewer uneasy but still be able to appreciate the humanity of the subject. I wonder if that makes sense.

True, but it works for me. I've always found that they eyes are the most important part of any portrait as they really tell us more about the person than any other part of the face. Hide or distort the eyes, that changes the whole focus of a face, especially with a closeup.

I wonder how we would react if the person had been wearing dark sunglasses.

I generally think a portrait of person as aloof with sunglasses.
