Patterns in the sand during a stormy Sunset

While walking along the causeway at the great salt lake, I saw this interesting pattern of sand, due to low winds (which happen often in this area) We've had quite a bit of sandstorms this summer due to the Great Salt Lake drying up. I fear a sandy future for Northern Utah.

Anyway, I thought the patterns were neat and used a GND filter for the sky to enhance the deep colors already there.

East of the scene was a bit of lightning, which I always seem to miss, so I gave up and retreated back to my car as soon as the wind picked up.

Beautiful use of the GND filter for the clouds, Mavoureen....'been to Salt Lake once on along trip once. This is a very nice shot...but what is that cat doing so far away over there at the top left horizon?

Nice, actually like the effect created on the horizon, but the wave pattern makes for an interesting foreground.

Great shot, great light , fab mood, maybe a little soft fro my taste and clone the object out mid left. love the way the sky changes colour at the mountain almos looks like the mountain is touching the sly and spewing blue into it!

Hi Mavourneen .Very nice image I agree with Mark about cloning the object on upper left side of the image. Did you use a soft GND filter?

It was a cheap GND. A quick replacement for the cokin GND. I'm not very good at cloning objects out of images. I know it distracts somewhat.

A very interesting shot, Mavourneen and a really good example as to what a GND can do for an image.

What I find intersting about this piece is how the foreground and middle ground of this image are physically the same thing, but with the way that the clouds blocked off the sunlight, this weather related even created this compositional element for you. Then of course, there is the sky; WOW! Gorgeous; nicely done!
