    Suggestions Welcome

    Suggestions Welcome

    Sony SLT A55
ƒ/1.7, 50.0 mm, 1/125, ISO 200, Flash (off, did not fire)
Crop is as shot, processed in Lightroom 5.5

I can't decide if the limited color helps or hurts. I did not care for the image in black and white but can't quite figure out what to do to help this pop (if anything can be done). I'm also concerned about the leg on the left - is it too distracting having it in front of his face even though his eyes are the main focus? Thanks for the help. Rachel

Hi Rachel and welcome to CiC,

That's one tiny cat but when you post it at a decent size and if it's as good as the ones on your site I'm sure it's going to get some admirers.

How do you get a cat to pose like that I only have to get within a metre of ours and it attacks me.

    Hi Rachel,
It is true that one learns from mistakes…
It is also true that one is kept motivated by good and decent shots like this one.
    Just enjoy this one!

Thank you. (In 7 years it's the first picture I have of him looking at the camera ) Sounds like your cat could give you some good action shots.

Thank you Kodiak. I really like this picture, I am just a little nervous. I want to enter an annual contest this fall in my home state and I have never been comfortable putting my pictures out there. I have bitten the bullet so to speak and figured why not. They only accept a limited number of entries from what I am told so I wanted to submit a strong image and was hoping to get some honest feedback here.

LOL no need to appologise Rachel, it took me 8 attempts to do it first time, but then being a man reading instructions is out of the question

Wonderful strong immage and crispy sharp where it needs to be, great colours.... i might try a square crop to remove the carpet up to his front leg and in from the right and left to center his eyes but keep it square, see how that works, and please post it if you do it as im curious you might try a slight vignette as well, its all about those wonderful eyes for me!

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Rachel,

A really nice shot. I like the way you composed this shot.

When composing your shot have your eye run trough the viewfinder. Look out for background objects that might lead the eye away from the main subject. Be aware of bright reflections and objects “sticking out of heads”.

See that yellow above the head and the white, extending from the ear. (Use a pillow behind the cat.)

Welcome Rachel You might reduce the saturation of the yellow thing behind the cat's head selectively. You have a lovely cat with shiny hair and bright green eyes.
