I love the rawness of this image. When I viewed it larger, I wondered how it would have looked with a larger depth of field.

I perfectly agree with Kim's remark about the rawness of your image.
But there are no questions whatsoever about the DoF… It's perfect!
    Very cool take John.

I have a lot of respect for you guys who "see" and capture a great street photo. This is wonderfully seen and executed. I love the DOF. Actually it was the first technical thought that came to my mind on seeing this.

Thanks for all the comments. Terri, I'm not one of them "guys" either. I'm very much an opportunist and occasionally see something worth capturing. Even more occasionally, I'm quick enough to capture it.

NOt only the rawness of the shot, but also the good use of empty space is very nice here...appealing really...it is the use of empty space that I noticed next after the guy reading the paper...

    Re: Reading the News

As everyone is pointing out, everything about this image is just terrific. It would also make a great monochrome.

Hi John I like the shot. He is such a tiny man IMO the image is also a good candidate for B&W.

Thanks Mike, thanks Binnur. I must admit that I liked the pastels in the original but having tried your suggestion of a mono version, I like that as well. It's a different image though. I've added some texture. Converted and processed in Nik SFX.

    Hey John,

Very tasteful conversion …but quite noisy!

Both images work well for me John, I love the dof and space as Izzie pointed out. A very intriguing looking character and credit to you for spotting such a great photo.
    Cheers, Greg

    Re: Reading the News

Thanks Kodiak. Not so much noise as a bit of grit added with the Nik SFX "Structure" tool. Perhaps a bit too much.

Thanks Greg. We were just walking through the narrow back streets and as we crossed this one, he was just there.

Very candid shot, John. I'm curious to know what settings you used to capture this.

    Re: Reading the News

I like the somewhat grungy look of the wall and other areas of the monochrome version but it makes the stuff applied to the person appear as being overly sharpened.

I agree with Mike about oversharpened look of the man
