Wilds of Yorkshire

Another part of our trip to Yorkshire and North was some walking on the Pennine Way and remoter Swaledale and as ever it was the detail of the flora and fauna that caught my eye. I was trying to take images of that within a large landscape, so comments appreciated of whether I have succeeded and tips to improve welcomed.

The first day are on the same day which was bright and sunny, the third another day where the skies were moody and the sun did not shine. The second I cropped to remove any sky as per recommendations on Hannah's Meadow shots. The third I wonder whether to crop and lose both foreground and sky and therefore make the focal point of the image the hut and the sheep, but for me this then loses the large landscape feel.

To me, the second is the best of the three, I like the angle, exposure, and color components. The third could do with a crop to remove most of the foreground.

Lovely images. I especially love the 2nd image, absolutely beautiful! My next favourite is the 1st. I love the scene in the 3rd image but I think I too, would crop the grass placing the sheep in the immediate foreground OR the sky which leaves the leading lines of the grass.

My suggestion would be to consider cropping the bottom to lose foreground, thus making it, at most, a 16:9, but even going further towards panorama with a 2:1 or even 2.5:1 .

The first two are, I think gorgeous. They tell us as much about the place as a wide panorama. The first one in particular is beautifully composed.

Very nice set Kaye, I agree with Donald's suggestion to remove the foreground of the third image to retain both the sheep and sky.

Hi Kaye I like #1 very much , I would also try it in B&W. IMO the FG in #3 needs cropping for a better look.

Thank you all for your comments. Binnur I tried the B&W conversion but couldn't get it to have a silvery glow which is what I wanted - I think I need a/ more practise at conversion and b/ better software as at present I only have PSE.
To you all thank you for the cropping suggestions on the 3rd image - below is the result which is 2.5:1 and the image warmed a little -I prefer this version, so thank you and hope you do too

Love #1 -- beautiful composition there. In my eyes, a little bottom crop of #2 is in order. The edit in #3 is now better thanks to the suggestions of others before me.

Thanks Izzie. Can I ask why you'd like the crop in the 2nd - is it to eliminate the grass that is out of focus in the bottom left ? And how much would you crop ? - I don't want to lose too much of the green.

Nope...there just seems too much of the bottom to look and can't really concentrate on the whole picture. The crop you made here is so much better though now it is more like a panorama even when it's not the original intent. Just a tad would have been enough. This crop is now OK, but I would have gone lesser crop.
