Both very nice, prefer the 1st as it makes the petals look more vibrant.
I should have mentioned that these are straight out of LR with virtually no PP.
It's the black background for me William and good detail in the petals. Seems like less is best
They could have been a 10/10 but that clamp arrangement
I've unchecked my auto tone box in the preferences presets.Doesn't LR do a tonal adjustment upon opening
My taste runs to the black. I think #1 is by far the best of the series you have been posting. Just personally, I would do a little more PP, e.g.,
--I'd brighten it a little. You have room to do that:
--I'd try adding a small amount of clarity or local contrast to help bring out the textures in the petals. Not much, because they are delicate.
--I'd add a bit of vibrance.
--I'd consider dodging the darker flowers on the left a bit.
--I'd clone out the clamp.
--Maybe (I'd want to see after adding the clarity), I would add a bit of contrast, and mild sharpening.
But then again, that's just my taste.
I always love "black-ground" for flowers
#1 for me William
I did not mean you used a black back drop; i too was hinting the PP you applied. Your skin deep thoughts are funny
I took the first shot against the black Plexiglas then draped it with a white sheet...
same settings, same everything.
I like the version with black BG
It's interesting in that the black is more dramatic but, I would rather hang the white one.
Hi Chancey,
Beautiful shots. I too, prefer the black background but normally I prefer white backgrounds. Perhaps the white colour is just not the right white to show off the flowers. A tad pink? The green colour of the stem stands out more with the black background.
The black one stands out nice, but I like the white one.
I like the black better, but I tend toward the dramatic. :P
I like the first version with the black background, William...Discounting the green hair clip that you stole from my cabinet to hold your stem you did a pretty good job with that one. I particularly like the way the light hits the bamboo at the bottom and crispness of the flower. Oh...white can be good too but it is too much of the white in one shot. I like it too, but as you will notice, the dark background emphasizes even the green stems connecting the flowers where as with the white background that was lost in translation as the stems in the middle became darker. Perhaps if you tone down the white background a little, it will look better as you like the white better anyway and the darker version emphasizes the center stem to brighten up, just work the background white colour until the stem colour changes slightly ...the second version of the white looks good but knowing the characteristic of orchids, you removed too much of the bottom -- it needs that piece of bamboo behind with the hair clip holding it -- no matter what anyone sez...it is more natural to have it there. I have not seen any orchid of the same breed without it. Too much flower just cannot sustain a stem without the bamboo and the clip. Just a natural thought...unless you are just photographing the flowers without the stem that will work without the support, but with the stem, the support is necessary. Can you follow my thoughts on this?
