Right, I am just about finished with this tree now and it's been another great exercise with a good subject, some planning and more than anything with this series total confusion on my part as to which of the many many edits I have done I prefer.
So here's the final versions (for now) some advice taken and some ignored but I do know that I can make half a dozen different ones and like them all.
No 1
I have increased the sky detail but consider it detracts from the tree.
No 2
I have removed the island from the right that was stuck out of the tree, hope the locals do not notice.
Thanks to all who have assisted with this project and whilst I had hoped to be able to add another completed image from the other side of the tree at sunset tonight's attempt did not work out.

I'll have a go at my rock location in the week but here's one I did some time ago at one of the islands here early morning, 4 seconds at f/22 but it was just a small area and there was not a great deal of water height change.
I can not recall if I used an ND or possibly a CPL to slow things.

Looks on the right track to me.
There's a number of benefits to shooting multiple shots though ...
1. You can vary the effect by combining more or less number of shots
2. It averages the noise too - so you get unbelieveable clean shots (shooting 32 @ ISO 3200 gives the equivalent of around ISO 100 - 200 noise)
3. You know where you stand exposure wise without needing to wait for a realllly lonnng exposure
4. You can bias the shots to cater for where you want the water (in / out / mix)
Just some food for thought - I'm off to bed
Very nice "final" edits Grahame. I think that I may agree with you about the sky in #1 as you've certainly added some drama but the overall mood of the image is so calming that I think somewhere in between might be best. Having said that I also think that you need to let this one rest a while and revisit both versions when they are not so fresh in your mind and you can observe the effect of the overall image more objectively.
An island here, an island there, who's going to miss an island I think the removal in #2 has really simplified the image and was the right thing to do 'for the sake of art' which is where your skills are taking your imagery.
Sorry about the sunset shot of your tree not working out but you will get it eventually.
Very nice work and very inspiring. I'm off to re-edit one of mine based on your suggestions
Hi Grahame, I think all the hard work and help from other members has really paid off, fantastic final edit mate, well done!
Cheers David
Hi Grahame,
Beautiful final edits! #2 is still my fave. Thank you for sharing your learning. Great thread!
