IMO, …the right thing the wrong way!

The right thing: the portrait.
Great intensity, personality and your up close approach is just perfect.

The wrong way: the rendition.
Such a great portrait inspires confidentiality, intimacy, and warmth. The
blue toning is working against these! Your monochrome conversion is
pertinent and should have stop there. If, always IMO, you still wish to tone
the take, I would suggest some warmer tone.

Great portrait full of power Kodiac is on the money with the tone and the eyes need to be sharper me thinks, but id be proud of it.

I'll go with the consensus. The second image is definitely a lot stronger than the first.

I find that in portraiture, the eyes, or at least the eye closet to the camera has to be sharp, otherwise the viewer will have problems connecting with the image. Nicely done!
