Wine Growing Valley & Slopes

This is the estate of my client for whom I work since late last April.

On the slopes of this valley grow 5 white wines and 1 red wines.
The buildings at the bottom of the valley are the restaurant, the cellar,
offices, garage, storage and the original house.

This image is a composite of 16 photographs that were partly stitched
and partly stacked. The end picture sizes 212 MP and is in the process
to be printed 1:1

That's a nice composition Daniel with good colour control. My only thought is that the valley might benefit from a small amount more light. At the moment, my eye is drawn straight to the cloudscape first. I don't know if that is what you intended.

Yes absolutely, John!

This shot took weeks in planning. The whole scenario was reviewed in
all its details and took several days to execute. This being one of the
most sophisticated take I did this year.

It would be difficult for me to accept that any other thing could draw
your attention more than this setting skycape since this is a typical
view of this area: deep skies over shallow valleys.

Everything was planned… more inspirational than descriptive!

Very beautiful place, Daniel...I am a teetotaler when it comes to wine but I love visiting places like this. In Australia, we have different places for white and red wine areas for growing...where I live we have the best red wine grapes while the place where Greg Norman has his property near Port Philipp Bay is white wine country. We have wine growing zones.

Very nice, I see shafts of light falling on the trees and greenery to the right, if we were actually viewing this scene those lights would be moving across the valley. It's hard to convey that type of movement but you've captured it well.

Just to say that this image is absolutely gorgeous! For the light, the sky and the beautiful detail, leading lines (and light) of the vineyards in the foreground... And of course the overall scene is also breathtakingly beautiful.

I almost missed this image. I only saw it because I wondered what Izzie was up to. I wonder why you wouldn't post it in the nature thread.

May I ask why one would need 16 images? And also how does one blend so many images with varying light? (I'm trying to learn to do this with just 3 birds and it is extraordinarily difficult to do)

First, I am very pleased that you like the work so much.
Second, not in the nature thread because this is imagery… no longer photography.
The valley exists as you see it but that light never did! …this is my fantasy!

May I ask why one would need 16 images?

The owner wished a final print that would even exceed the possibilities
of my MF 80MP back! So I decided to go with the D800E and stitch some
takes together. To this point, we are still talking photography… very large
format photography. Then, more shot were stacked to bring in light con-
ditions that did not happened that very day but occurred over the next
few days. That is why I said that this was one of the most sophisticated
piece of imagery I did this year.

Yes, it is truly exquisite. I adore skies, and dreamy scenes like this. One of my goals for this year is to learn to photograph landscapes and it is not easy.

Imagery? Do you mean that you photographed the sky and the light on the foreground different days and stacked/merged the images?

Thank you for sharing the reasons for so many images. I will keep trying to learn to merge/stitch two or three images, well before even thinking of anything more. Truly appreciated.

Shame, shame, Daniel! Surely you've repeatedly read that you're not supposed to put the horizon in the center. I wonder how few people will agree with me that this characteristic of the image is one of its most compelling elements.

I really like that you and the client had a vision in mind and that the photo meets all of the requirements. In my mind, nothing gets better in photography than planning a photo and then executing the plan to perfection.

That helpful comment in the context of your explanation of how you made the photo completely confirms my understanding of your related comment in our discussion a couple days ago in another thread. Now I am totally sure that I properly understand your concept of photography vs. imagery.
