    Wharf Swimmers at Sunset

We had a beautiful sunset tonight and I got this photo of kids swimming at the wharf. It is not my typical photo, I am trying to take more photos of people and scenic views. In fact, this may be the first time I have posted in People and Pets.

So not sure about this photo. I cropped some off of the foreground. I liked the long boards running to the swimmers at the end of the wharf. What do you think about the crop? What about the colors? Is the foreground too dark and any other two cents you want to add.

    Appreciate the critique.

The shot is very, very nice but if you knew that they were going to jump,
why didn't your try to get a boy against the evening sky?

In any case, for me, the greatest feature is the reflection of the sky colours
in the patine of the dock wood!

The sunset would probably make a decent landscape picture on its own, but with the human element it is much more interesting. I am a fan of silhouettes and I like the way you have captured the light reflecting off the boards.

There appears to be a little haloing around the structure the boy is standing under and around the railings on the left.

Great lighting and I enjoy the detail in the decking and the fact that you have retained a smidgen of detail in the silhouetted children. Have you thought of cropping a little of the right hand edge to make the key elements a little less central?

    Anyway I do like it.

I like that as it is Ali. The fact that the LH boy has his arms outstretched ready to jump, gives it a dynamic that tells the story. Nice shot.

Nicely done, just enough foreground and leading lines to do justice to the blazing sky, silhouettes, and action.

The sky -- colouring, shapes, everything is just perfect there...I love the overall look of the shot. I agree with LPaul on the sun reflecting the texture of the wood. Beautiful...simply beautiful.

Well spotted and captured Ali, you got the exposure good with the slight detail in the near silhouette.

Hmm. The right side has the most brilliant color, would be a shame to lose that. Also, having the main elements directly in the middle works in this instance. The long boards draw your eye to the center, & continues up thru the sunset.

    Just my humble opinion.

    Thank you for your comments.
You see exactly what I was trying to photograph. My original intent was to photograph the wharf with long running boards with the glow from the sun leading up to the sunset. The swimmers were no where in sight. When they did appear, it wasn't long before their parents and others surrounded them to take their own photos. I moved to another location to take other photos.

    Daniel,
Glad you like the picture. It was one of our better sunsets this summer.

    Greg,

Thanks for commenting and picking up on the haloing around the edges. I will go into Light Room to remove it.

    L.Paul,
Thanks for your comments. Yes, I have thought about cropping from the right, I will try it again.
