    Mountain Lingerie

I was in a small plane flying around Mt. Denali. There were lots of puffy clouds and we had to fly between them. They blocked part of the view of the mountain. The pilot commented, "I like the clouds. They are like women's lingerie, they leave something to the imagination". This photo was taken today in Grand Teton National Park. The clouds left something to the imagination. The mountain in the photo is Mt. Teewinot (12,325 ft). The summit was over a mile higher than where I was standing. The snow on the top of the mountain is the first snow in the Tetons since June.

Interesting. Almost an abstract. I like the colors.

Simply stunning and stunningly simple. I could go on an on, but prefer to keep things simple out of respect for the image.

Thank you Marie, Mike and John. I stood for an hour and watched the clouds and the light put on a show.

I still don't quite get whether you were in a plane or standing when you took the photo, but it's a great view.

Sorry for the confusion. I was standing in Jackson Hole when I took the photo. It made me think of my earlier experience.

Beautiful light Chuck! Your pilot must be a bit of a poet in his spare time

I really love this image! The clouds and the sun hitting a small part of the mountain, all go together perfectly!

Amazing shot, Chuck! Is there any way you can bring out more details in the cloud?

Wonderful shot; it really demonstrates what people should be looking for when they are overwhelmed by the beauty of a mountain scene. Rather than trying to capture the whole setting; you've zoomed right in to where the sun was striking the mountain and lighting it up. The clouds were doing their best to hide the mountain, but the sun got the last laugh.

Just a great image; simplicity wins again!

That, as others have written, is glorious. A beautiful image fro the reasons stated above, bit, in particular, those stated by Manfred in terms of realising that the magnificence of the scene could be conveyed by going right in on a bit of detail. The skill is in, a) knowing to do that and, b) choosing the right bit. Both masterfully demonstarted in this picture.

    Re: Mountain Lingerie

Excellent view...good capture. I was equally enthralled by the light shining at some parts of the mountain though I will probably not see it as a woman's lingerie...your pilot has a good imagination. Did you use a taildragger for your flight?
