    Not a problem Rita and Izzie...I can't think of anyone more technically astute with macro work.

    There are 2 things I think you should try Rita. One is try using continuous AF and nothing else but practice moving the camera back and forwards while keeping the AF tracking. You could do that on something on a table etc. It's pretty slow at macro distances.

    The other method which would allow the camera to be used in the same way as a dslr is here

    Olympus OMD EM-5 focus peaking

    I have been meaning to try this but haven't yet. My impression where I have tried it is that it seems to work at it's best when the depth of field is low = macro distance and the fact that the lens is wide open before you take the shot. You could use this with any combination of manual focusing and af just using it to finalise the focus - I don't know how well it will work but it is worth trying. A search on youtube for em-5 focus peaking will show you what it looks like through the viewfinder.

    John, (ajohnw), thanks for the info I will look into it and give it a try. On Dans suggestionI have just found how to remove the af from the shutter button and assign it to Fn1. Tried that out today and so far I like how that works.
