Very wary
The little girl had climbed to the top of a unit at the playground when she suddenly realized that climbing down can be much more difficult. Her father was doing his best to reassure her that he was there to keep her safe and that she could do it. Even so, she was very wary. I had my lens aimed at her just in case something special would happen that would be worth capturing. That was when she suddenly looked straight at me, a moment that lasted just a couple seconds.

Re: Very wary
I dig this ... you've captured her essence at that moment. I would have preferred less sharpening on her hair though but otherwise great portrait. Cheers.

Re: Very wary
Very very well done! I agree though a teensy bit less sharpening on the hair, I also would love to see it in B/W as the bright yellow of the slide, tries to overpower the image a wee bit for me.
Could you try a conversion, just as I asked so nicely

Re: Very wary
Thank you to John and Kay!
I can reduce the sharpening on the hair but I don't like the image in black-and-white. That's because the yellow thing she's sitting on indicates to me that she is at a playground; in black-and-white, it makes me wonder what the heck it is.

Re: Very wary
I took photographs at a playground...once! The local mothers called the cops thinking that I was a pervert.

Re: Very wary
I've never had a problem with that, Chauncey, but I understand. When the parents are around, I usually show them the photos that I take. They enjoy seeing them and they take it as a compliment that I'm taking pictures of their children. I didn't show the father the photo in this case because he was engrossed in taking care of his daughter at the time and rightfully so.

That's just one of the cutest pics I've seen in a while. Very well done! To catch her looking at you really made it.

Re: Very wary
Taking street shots of children is always risky and makes me very uncomfortable. You took the risk and it paid off with a great shot.
